FHA Manufactured Home Foundation Inspection
Manufactured Home Requirements
Manufactured homes have particular requirements by law, which vary from the requirements set forth for site-built homes. All foundation systems, new or existing, are required to meet guidelines published in the HUD Permanent Foundation Guide for Manufactured Housing (Sept. 1996).
Manufactured Home Certification
Homeowners are required to obtain a certification from a professional structural engineer when a manufactured home is refinanced or sold to show that the home is properly anchored to a permanent foundation.
Why are Manufactured Homes Different?
The government discovered some time ago that when a manufactured home is properly anchored down, it will be able to weather tornado damage or other severe weather much better. This is the reason for the HUD ordinance that requires a structural engineer's approval of the foundation.
